Update, 7 September 2026: deleted portfolios now have a 30-day recovery window. See A Second Chance for Deleted Portfolios for the current process. The irreversible deletion described below now applies to permanent deletion.

A portfolio in CLARIFYProperty is more than a single record. Over time it becomes connected to accounts, transactions, categorisations, smart schedules, smart scenarios, and the entries that bring everything together.

That is useful while you are working with the portfolio, but it also means an accidental deletion could remove a great deal of important data.

A More Deliberate Decision

Deleting a portfolio now includes a little more friction before the action can be completed.

Usually, reducing friction makes an application easier to use. Destructive actions are different. When one click can permanently remove a portfolio and everything connected to it, taking an extra moment to confirm that decision is worthwhile.

The deletion process makes the scope clear: deleting a portfolio also deletes its entries, smart schedules, smart scenarios, accounts, transactions and categorisations. It then asks for a more deliberate confirmation before proceeding.

Protecting Important Data

This is not intended to make a common task harder. Deleting an entire portfolio should be rare, and the small additional step helps distinguish a considered decision from an accidental click.

Portfolio deletion still cannot be undone, so exporting the portfolio first is worth considering. The extra friction is there to help ensure that important data only disappears when you genuinely intend it to.
